7lbs4oz, 20.5 inches of heaven.

October 21st.

My original due date. You know, the one where you first find out you’re pregnant, download the “What to Expect” app, put in the date of your last period and your “due” date pops up?! Yup- mine was October 21st…and what a perfect day to have our baby sis.

Let’s start off by saying, being “overdue” (after my dating ultrasound, they said I was expected on October 17th) is a weird type of pregnancy torture lol. The anticipation of meeting your baby is killer- especially having gone early with both kids. I laughed, I cried, I danced, I walked, I bounced, had a stretch and sweep on the Thursday & nothing… I was going slightly coo coo. I was also SO uncomfortable (felt like my pelvis was going to fall out of me) for so long, had crazy Braxton Hicks that towards the end, I didn’t know if I was going into labour or just in a ton of pain. I was loosing credibility fast LOL everyday it was like… “I’m going to have this baby” ya ya- no baby!

On Saturday morning, I woke up feeling super crampy and lost my mucus plug. Naturally, I anticipated having the baby alllllllll day. Went about my weekend with my fam and by Sunday night, I was feeling super crampy again. Steve and I went to bed at around 11pm and as we laid there, I told him that I felt like I was about to have a baby… & then we fell asleep.

I woke up just before 2:00am with my first contraction… and then starting writing down my contractions beginning at 2:01am. I wasn’t sure what I was feeling anymore lol and didn’t want to wake up the world with a false alarm! By 2:30pm, they were 7 mins apart and by 3:00pm; they were about 4-5mins apart. Woke up my hubby, called my MIL over to watch our kiddies, called my mom so she could meet us at the hospital and I started to grab my things. The contractions were super strong so I knew I needed to get to the hospital ASAP.

Drove to Credit Valley (the labour unit outside doors were under construction) so had to walk my pregnant ass through the hospital and pretty much died the whole way.

Got to labour and assessment at 4AM. Contractions were killer, I was dilated to a 5-6 and was admitted right away. The nurse had warned me that I was progressing so fast that there was a chance of no epidural. I mean… SORRY?! In between the super strong (& super painful contractions), I was mentally preparing for a natural, epidural-free birth. I joked with the nurse that an unmedicated birth would probably be the perfect birth control for me LOL

Luckily for me, I am 3 for 3 in the Anesthesiologist department because as soon as I got to my room, he walked in and saved the day. The pain eased (although I still felt the pressure) and we all chit chatted for about an hour. The nurse had told us that I would deliver the baby fairly quickly and because I could feel the pressure, I was able to let the nurses know when I felt a contraction that was coupled with pressure that didn’t go away.

The head nurse came in to see if my water had broken and as she opened my legs, she was literally like OK, I see her head, your water broke- we need to start pushing. And about 5 pushes later, baby Lily entered the world and into my arms. She was born at 5:43AM on Monday, October 21st, weighing 7lbs 4oz and 20.5 inches long. She is so delicious and we are all so in love with her. We named her Lily Rose and both her and Ava share a middle name. Steve has always loved the name Rose and I just love that he loves it. Plus, how perfect does Lily Rose sound? <3

So a few things I know for sure… third babies may not come into the world early (as some would expect) but they sure come into this world SUPER fast! My total labour was less then 4 hours and from when I got to the hospital, I delivered less then 2 hours later. It was perfect and I am so happy to finally have baby Lily here with us.

And I would do it ALLLLL over again… just don’t tell anyone!!

A few things that saved me during my hospital stay…
– a super long phone charger (grabbed mine off of amazon) so that I could lay in bed and have my phone nearby

– DEPENDS… gamechanger. However, I wish I brought pads as well because I would have worn the pads in the depends (because they are like super comfy undies)

– Everything else… I didn’t care for lol I just wanted to lay in bed, skin to skin with my baby! Didn’t want to wear Pjs, a robe, NOTHIN. Needless to say, I overpacked!

Message me if you have any questions about ANYTHING… birth, Credit Valley, my experience(s)- I am happy to help. Also, don’t let anyone’s birth horror stories scare you, you GOT this<3.

With love,

Chelss
